It's apparently been fixed. The only way to do this is to recover your friends account, sign in on it with controller two, sign in on yours from controller one, launch the beta with your account, then sign out of your friends recovered account. You have to use your friends account each time. Which means, unless your friend has given you his account, that you have to recover his account each time you want to play the beta.
