Call Of Duty 4 Beta…without the invitation
If you missed out on the chance to get an invitation code for the Call Of Duty 4 Beta, don’t worry, all hope is not lost. If you happen to have a friend lying around who has the beta and is willing to let you recover their account to your Xbox temporarily, then you’re in luck.
The basic principle here is to sign on to your own Xbox as your friend (who has the beta), visit their download history and re-download it to your HDD. From there on you can use it just like any other demo you happen to have on there. Brilliant! Here’s how;
1) Recover your friends account to your Xbox
2) Go to Marketplace > Account Information > Download History and highlight the beta.
3) Pick up a second controller (assuming you have one), press the guide button and choose to sign in (don’t sign in yet). Now use the first controller to sign in to your original Xbox Live Account.
4) Now that you’re signed in on your original account, you may download the beta.
5) When the download is complete, return to the Dashboard and delete the recovered account. Then load up the beta and enjoy!
It should now work perfectly on your own Xbox Live Account. This very same glitch can be used for many other purposes…use your imagination.

Hey, I tried this however it will only let me launch the beta if I first sign on as my friend’s account that has the beta then switching. Does deleting his account make the difference?

Hey, I noticed u modified this guide since yesterday. I understood as of yesterday, but now i’m lost. Is this a guide for the person without the beta, or the person with the beta trying to giet it for the person without? Hopefully u get what I mean. If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

@ matt - yeah, i tested it again with another friend and found that my modification works much better. luckily, i have a solution for your problem. Basically…if you go through the procedure again with step 3, your problem wll be solved.

Will the original account have the beta in the recent downloads? Could I create a second account, start the download, sign out and let a friend recover the second account and download the beta?

@ Jon - i haven’t tried that yet but i do believe the beta will be in the download history of whoever downloads it, even if that means you obtained it through a friend. Give it a try and let us know

my friend used a memory card with his account on it to download it to my xbox, as long as he launched it then signed out i could play under my account but wont let me launch it from my account any suggestions?

@ Wolf - again, the best way really is to follow step 3 carefully. BEFORE you download the beta, pick up a second controller and press the guide button. pick up the first controller and then press ’sign in’ ….sign in on your original account. you will then be reverted back to the download history…then download the beta (using controller 1…this means you will be downloading it to your own account)

@ halodude111 - I haven’t heard of anyone being banned using this method and I don’t see why people could get banned. The content is free, so it’s not like you’re stealing anything. And for those in europe wondering if this works, it does work. If we weren’t supposed to have it there Microsoft would ban IP addresses.

I faced a problem and hopefully it wont happen again but it said i had to pay 99,999 microsoft points and if the problem persist then I guess no beta for me(only done it once so lets hope it works second time)

I think since they’ve updated the version of the beta, there are some new game settings that need to be downloaded and that seems to be what’s causing people some problems. I still haven’t downloaded them myself but i’ll get back to you guys tomorrow about it.

I have a question. I have the beta downloaded on my hdd. The account that I used to DL the beta has changed the password and isnt let anyone use it anymore. Is there anyway I can access it? It sucks that I have it but cant play it.

This no longer works. They have fixed it. When you try this using the above method it says you have to pay for it. 99,999 MSP is the price it says when you try to download it with the non-beta account.

I tried using this method and i did everything correctly, but when i go and try to re-download it under my gamertag it says i must pay an amount of 99,999 microsoft points. Can u help me?

As I said in the comment above yours, this method no longer works. It’s apparently been fixed. The only way to do this is to recover your friends account, sign in on it with controller two, sign in on yours from controller one, launch the beta with your account, then sign out of your friends recovered account. You have to use your friends account each time. Which means, unless your friend has given you his account, that you have to recover his account each time you want to play the beta.
